Great for bakery treats or breakfast. We always seem to take treats with us after eating a great breakfast.

Came in 30 minutes before they closed and after being told they would be with me when they got a chance by two different staff members (I was the only one standing at the case to get a super salad to go) another couple walked in and was waited on before me. The staff saw the look of disgust on my face, since I was standing there waiting 15 minutes before them.... Cause only then I was finally waited on. The food is worth the lack of service. I don't have high expectations, after all it is a bakery.

Raves: The food is fresh! My vegetarian plate was an amazing salad trough leaving me nothing to be desired. They use fresh unadulterated produce. High five on this aspect. Eh: Service was just okay. Coffee mugs were left empty for 15 minutes before we asked for refills. One of the servers continued to clean tables for awhile before refilling drinks. We never got our check so we got up and asked for one at the counter. Nah: Definitely sit outside if it is a nice day, because the inside decor is indeed atrocious. The bathrooms are also filthy (worst I have seen in at least a decade).

I had breakfast here and will NEVER go there again. Can you believe it... you must eat will a plastic fork! The food was barely OK. The waitress... well when the food arrived she also gave us a "card" that has a number on it. You can't see your bill... you must take the card to the register then "pay" still without seeing the bill! How lame... and lazy! Oh... we never were checked on by our waitress once we had our food. Out of sight and out of mind. To top it all off I felt the food was WAY OVER PRICED for what you were served!

I'm surprised that I've never reviewed this place. We go for breakfast on Sunday after arrival every year. And we went back two more times this year. Husband loves the french toast. He also tried the salmon and provelone frittata this year. I love the polenta and waffles. The service is always great. The food is always great. Even got to try the cookies and scones this year. The only negative was the evidently the timeshare sales breakfasts now happen at Signes on a regular basis. That's really off-putting. I know business is business though.

Another swede recommended this place. It's wonderful. Great quiches, chicken gumbo is amazing and I'll definitely snag a cowboy cookie, some Key Lime Bread pudding or one of their great looking pecan pies! Oh my! I'll be back very soon!

Innovative decor and food. I had Rachel Ray's favorite French toast with blackberries in it. Tasty, but pastries were a little dry. Servers were very accommodating, especially with my 90 year old parents.

Just there a few days ago. While busy, seemed like there was plenty of help, but service was deplorable. One staff greeted us with "find a seat," and then no one came to table for at least 15 minutes. It got worse from there. While staff seemed to be numerous, did not seem that anyone was in charge to keep things moving. We ended up ordering half of what we had planned and took it to go. Food was ok. Of note, we've been to Signe's over the past 10-12 years, but it's been going downhill. Disappointing. Won't be back.

Signe's is a pretty good bakery. It's been featured on that Rachel Ray show a long time ago in a galaxy far away. Never had anything there I didn't enjoy. You always leave feeling fulfilled but not overfilled. Grab a sweet treat to go for later in the day. If you want to skip the chain and dime a dozen tourist breakfast locales, try this one instead.

My wife and I just had pastries and muffins for breakfast. It was decent. The coffee was nice and strong. Yes - you have to take your number to the cash register to pay or else you will be waiting forever.

Loved the French Toast (think more bread pudding-type french toast than traditional) and the shrimp and grits were delish!

  • Megan C.

Minus one star for the Rachel Ray endorsement. I don't want to like anything Rachel Ray likes. I love the shrimp and grits and it comes with a nice little bowl of fresh fruit. The french toast is baked french toast. Baked not cooked in a skillet so you should not expect any sort of crispy crust. I think it tastes good, but I don't like sweet food for breakfast so I always opt for the shrimp and grits and take bites of my bf's french toast. I think the sausage that comes with the french toast is excellent.

What a disappointment ! We had gone there years ago, and it used to be amazing. Today's visit yielded freezer burnt cookies and pastries. The sign says baked fresh daily, but that does not mean it actually baked fresh. I called to complain, and was told that they do not bake fresh on weekends, and that everything was previously baked and frozen. The woman suggested I tried to reheat. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

I love the atmosphere, but the breakfast food wasn't quite to my taste. We all had the famous French toast, but I don't know if I would call it French toast. It was more like a pastry/casserole sort of combination, that was OK. Surprisingly, the plain version was my favorite, the blackberry and strawberries made it too soggy for my taste. The pastries, cookies, brownies, etc. in the cases all looked delicious, so that would be my recommendation, not the fresh breakfast items.

  • Matt P.

The signature french toast was good but the waffles were flat and soggy. Plus this is the first restaurant I have ever experienced for breakfast that refused to scramble an egg. Serving only poached eggs seems a bit crazy.

Maybe we should have came for breakfast but instead we came for lunch. Was pretty disapointed with the salads and had cookies for dessert which were just okay. The polenta special I ordered was good though. I want to go back for breakfast sometime seems like that is the way to go. So many items to choose from - something is bound to be yummy.

Signe's Bakery offers breakfast, lunch, and more importantly, delicious bakery treats! We went for breakfast one morning, and I wish I had just eaten cookies instead of the whole wheat waffles with fresh fruit. The waffles were good, but paled in comparison to the deep dish french toast-- available in plain, blackberry, or blueberry. Decadent! We also stopped by a few times for cookies, muffins, scones, and other treats. The scones glisten in the display case with sugar: the Turkish apricot was delicate and sweet. The milk dud cookie was my favorite, though the carrot walnut muffin and chocolate elephant ears were also fabulous. Go for dessert for breakfast!

Wow. There must really be no good food on Hilton Head for all the people that were inside. Firstly, I guess I should leave a slight disclaimer before I give my review. I'm from NYC. I eat brunch every week. NYC tends to have a lot of good brunches. Ok, now I continue... Arrived to Signe's to a packed parking lot. Went inside, where you order at the counter before seating yourself. Menu consisted of their brunch/breakfast sets: Their french toast (blueberry, blackberry, regular) where you can also get the "trio." Also, regular breakfasts, some salty items such as shrimp and grits, and fritatas. They had salads and soups (daily menu) as well. I ordered "the trio" and my mom ordered the "She-Crab" soup which a customer behind us said was the best around. Went and sat ourselves and waited. After a good 20-ish minutes our food came out. The Trio platter consisted of 3 (half) sized french toasts, 2 sausage patties and a small serving of fruit. The soup came with 4 half slices of toast (aka 2 slices), and a small serving of fruit. The Trio French Toast - ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I cannot even express how terrible the french toast was. It tasted like 3 pieces of some sort of cake that had been soaked in eggs for days and then cooked in a microwave. Soggy, bland flavoured and I had to drown it in syrup to even eat it. I'm pretty sure french toast is really hard to mess up (considering I've been making it by myself since I was a kid...). I was shocked how terrible it was. Even the sausage patties were dry and unmemorable. The only good thing was the fruit... The She-Crab soup - Wow. It was sweet. Like they had dropped the canister of sugar into the soup and pretended like nothing ever happened. Although the soup had a good amount of ingredients, it was NOT worth $7.95. Not even close. I was horrified to bring my mom here. I can't really comment on the bakery goods (because we didn't even bother after a terrible brunch), but it didn't even look like anything was made fresh. I'm slightly disturbed by the amount of business they get for the quality of food. I have this feeling that if my mom opened a bakery, Signe's would be out of business in a second. (Also note that my mom used to be a chef/baker). Will never ever return. Ick.

NO whole milk or Splenda for the coffee, they only do poach eggs not fried or scrambled. home made corn beef hash was so so. Lots of bakery stuff , I give them that.

Polenta, grits, sausage and eggs are fabulous. The fresh fruit and french toast not so much. The service has always been great, even when they're really busy.

I'm really not sure of the hype here. Went here today for brunch, had the "famous" french toast, and well not that good. A little eggy, and it tasted like it had been cooked yesterday and reheated today. I'm also always a little weary when I see a christian fish on the sign for the restaurant, uh what was that all about? The interior is tacky, the service is terrible, you order at a counter, get a number they bring it to you. No frills. Which is fine, ok its cheap, but the food was not that good. It just wasn't. I wanted it to be...but no.

Signe's (pronounced Sig-Kneez) is a MUST go to bakery and cafe on Hilton Head. Tucked away in a mostly industrial, off-the-strip neighborhood of the island - this is a quiet and quaint little spot that you will just love. We were a group of 7 with three dogs and sat comfortably on their covered flowery porch for a yummy and inexpensive brunch. Absolutely everything we ordered was delicious. I would highly recommend the Deep Dish French Toast Trio (HEAVENLY blueberry, blackberry and plain slices), the Breakfast Polenta, any of the daily Frittatas and the Spanikopita Pie. All breakfast dishes come with very fresh fruit, bread or sausage. We didn't order any desserts, but omfg did they look incredible. Enjoy!!

Awesome food. Right prices. Outdoor seating. Delicious baked goods. Oh yes. We went to Signe's which is inland (West of Wm Hilton Pkwy) and found a gem of a restaurant tucked away amongst trees / office parks. Seven of us sat outside and ordered almost every breakfast dish they offered. I felt ambitious and ordered the Breakfast Polenta which was really like a hearty / creamy egg and veggies mash. Loved it. Highly recommend this place.

DH and I loved Signe's. Heard about it from Rachael Ray's $40 a day. When we were there they were offering a combo of the deep dish french toast w/all 3 flavors. It was awesome. I wish we had gone there earlier in the week so we could have gone back for breakfast again. We will definitely go there EVERY time we go to HHI from now on.

Signe's Heaven Bound Bakery is, hands down, my favorite local eatery. As an aficionado of big breakfasts, I love her unique take on French toast and her frittatas are to die for. For lunch, her tomato tart and stuffed spuds are my favorites. But the chicken jaxx salad is equally good. Obviously, I've tried several items on her menu. I love the fact that when I go to Signe's she not only has healthy options on her menu but she often uses fresh ingredients. If you're looking to indulge, however, you don't have to venture far. The front dining room houses a spacious showcase of yummy homemade cookies, cakes, bread and much more. I love munching on her scones and washing it down with a warm cup of coffee! The atmosphere at Signe's is fun and whimsical. Whenever my Midwestern family members come to visit, they always want to stop at Signe's ... more than once! In addition to a regular menu and bakery, Signe also is known for her wedding cakes. Her Facebooks and website boasts some bodacious bridal creations. For my wedding, I opted for a dessert table - with pies, cookies and cupcakes. My wedding was in 2008, and people STILL talk about that dessert table. It was so fun to pick more than one dessert. It really made my wedding very special.

This is the place where locals go. Nothing fancy - actually somewhat tacky decorations but the food is surprisingly good and nothing like I would expect from the looks of the place. We each ordered a frittata. Ham frittata for one person and salmon frittata for myself. The presentation was what I would expect from a more expensive place - the frittata itself was fluffy and not oily. Generous with the cheese. It was served with a side of fruits and toast with butter / jelly. They advertise a 3 French toast slice which was featured by Rachel Ray. I didn't get that but it did sound interesting. Perhaps if I had more time in the area, I'd go back for this. We had desserts to go. I had the raspberry chocolate cake. It was probably the best cake I've had in some time at any restaurant. The cake was soft / moist and not too sweet. There was a hint of tartness from the raspberry - just enough to taste and not overwhelm the cake itself. I'd order that again. It would go perfectly with coffee. Edited review March 2013: Went back again towards the last week of March 2013 and brought additional people with us whom we told this place is good. What a complete 360! Service and food was absolutely horrid. No exaggerating - it took over 1.5 hours to get food served. Coffee / drinks, forget about it. Had to come up to the cash register 3-4 times to just get coffee / water, and I don't know why since there were plenty of empty tables and customers who had already eaten and were just sitting. Food was served cold. The Rachael Ray's Favorite deep dish french toast - yuck! This place really plummetted all of a sudden. The host couldn't even tell us what's in the western omelete. They didn't even bother asking for additional water / coffee / or other drinks, because no one ever passed by to ask us again. Even had to get up ourselves to get the check because no one passed by after we were well done past our brunch. Don't know what happened to this place - it became a wreck, both in food and service.

One of the reasons that I love Signe's is that we can get breakfast any time. A favorite of mine and my husband's is the deep-dish blackberry french toast. The taste is very unique, moist and it is always very consistent. The sausage that comes with the dish is delicious and has an interesting kick to it. Fresh fruit is also included. The portion is hearty and very satisfying. Another winner is the Super Salad which consists of your choice of chicken, tuna or salmon salad and three fresh selections from the case that change often. This too is a large portion but somehow I never have trouble finishing. I would highly recommend visiting the Cafe...

I would actually give this one 3.5. I think we were expecting something so great that while it was good, we just weren't as impressed as we thought we would be. It's sooo casual, you seat yourself but the waitstaff is rather oblivious and seems to just be processing stuff, no service. Literally it's handing you a menu, returning for order (with no comments, just writes it down) and I thought it was odd they only had minute maid orange juice and nothing better than that. the food itself was pretty good though, but as it wasn't super convenient to where we were staying, i don't think we'd go out of our way again. I know this isn't a full-service kind of place, but even with a smile and a greeting, I think it would really help this place.

  • Colleen C.

Decor was super tacky, didn't really like the whole plastic silverware thing...other reviews complained about bad service but we didn't experience that. Our server was friendly and the wait for the food wasnt long. In a place where you pay at the counter after you eat, you cant really expect awesome service. I ordered the French toast trio, it was good but nothing phenomenal. Definitely a different consistency than French toast I'm used to. Don't know if I'll be back, unless it's to try out the baked goods. The beach basket of sandwich + cold salads + dessert is a cute idea too!

A wonderful place to eat breakfast and get those great pastries and coffee. The service is top notch and laid back seeing that your every need is taken care of. It's quite, cozy, and off the beaten path enough you will not have to worry about road noise or too many people having loud conversations. An all around great place. They have tables outside under a porch to eat at as well.

The chocolate chip pecan pie is incredible and makes a really good gift to bring back up North to those missing the flavors of the South. I always order the Trio because it's bread pudding for breakfast that I get to pass off as french toast. Service can be iffy.

We were looking for some good breakfast after we realized our hotel continental breakfast was $18.00 per person. We found Signe's online, it had been visited by Rachel Ray from the Food Network. The decor is a little weird, service was average at best, but the food was good. It took the waitress 10 mins to bring our waters. We ate the Fritatta and the Hen House special. The Fritatta was a mix between a quiche and an omlette. We had the ham and cheese with peppers. It was very good, rich, and huge. My fiancée had the hen house with cheesy potatoes ham and poached eggs. He said the potatoes could use more cheese but overall it was good. Both plates were served with fresh fruit and toast, you won't leave hungry. Not bad for a place that claims to do cakes and breads.

This is a great place to go for brunch if you're staying on Hilton Head. The food is fresh and tasty, and we got pretty good service while we were there. The french toast is more like bread pudding, so don't expect it to look like traditional french toast. All the baked goods look great. We tried the chocolate pecan pie and it was rich and yummy!

This place is a gem! The food is fresh, the breakfast menu is delicious and the pecan pie is amazing! All of the baked goods-- ranging from key lime bread pudding to traditional brownies-- are fantastic. I've been coming to HHI my entire life and it's hands down one of the best places on the island.

Brunch was great, but we had a rather big party and most of the people didn't like the french toast because it was too "custardy". Personally, I thought it was great...it wasn't inexpensive...but it wasn't expensive either. I wouldn't go back...but it is a great one time stop.

  • Stephanie C.

Rachel ray must be on crack. The French toast is ok at best. Luckily its filling so you don't have to suffer through the entire plate. I tried the trio and the plain is good, blackberry was terrible and blueberry was ok. The service was strange. If you order a sandwich you have to go inside to get your chips but they bring you drinks and your sandwich. The plastic silver wear and paper fruit cups is a little unexpected when paying $9 for french toast. Tables are close together so you can hear every ones conversations. Overall a weird and forgettable experience.

Many Great menu items available, gives off a very home cooked feel in a funky spot on arrow road. While I enjoyed their pastries and iced coffees and breakfast, their she crab soup arrived cold and even when warm left much to be desired. More like a veggie and crab bisque at best.

I've been coming here since I was a baby. They have made multiple cakes and cupcakes for my birthdays too! Great brunch food. Only reason why it's 4/5 stars is because of the early closing time! I can barely make it after school to run in and grab a treat.

We went In December and we got seated right away. We ordered French toast - fair; Turkey trot pie- good; quiche of the day- good; frittata- good and she crab soup- meh. They forgot my frittata and they gave us the order that belongs to another table. I was hungry so while waiting for my food, I tried everybody's food. By the time my frittata came I was full and I just took most of it home. We also got chocolate angel wing pastry- not good according to my son. Our server was very nice. Maybe they are having an off day?

I had been looking forward to eating here all week after reading about the deep dish french toast and the cookies. What a disappointment! And an expensive one at that. A group of 4 of us went to breakfast. I did get the french toast trio - definitely NOT a made-to-order dish. And mine...was piping hot out of the microwave. I could tell it had been made a while ago, edges were tough and dry. The blackberry had the best flavor, but I would not order it again. I actually wouldn't ever go there again. I'm not a big fan of fried sausage patties, so I gave mine to my father he liked them. The side of fruit had been sitting together for quite some time and all tasted the same. My mother's waffle was cold and looked like it came out of a toaster. the poached eggs were fine. They got a side of potatoes which also, seemed pre-made, and frankly - not good. Several carbaholics at the table left them on the plate. I sat without water for most of my meal. While there was some staff in the room, cleaning tables. The ambiance was pretty awful. If it had not just rained, I would have preferred siting outside at the plastic tables and chairs. After wards we used a coupon to get 2 free cookies with purchase. Thank goodness they were free, or I would have been even more disappointed. My mother did buy a triple chocolate cupcake...that was probably the tastiest thing out of our entire experience. If not for the cupcake, this would have been a 1 star rating. After paying our bills my mother and I looked at each other...right at 40.00 each - 80.00 total for the four of us, no one satisfied and actually pretty disappointed. Never again. And what a waste of calories.

Unfortunately I was not impressed with Signes. The signature "Deep Dish French Toast" (which is supposedly a favorite of Rachel Ray) was eggy, soggy and not very flavorful. The waffles were thin and tough, and the eggs can only be ordered poached. The best dish we tried was the Shrimp and Grits which was very flavorful and the only reason I'm giving Signes two stars instead of 1.

I had the broccoli frittata which wast tasty and just the right size. I also had a cappuccino which was about double the size I'm used to, but enjoyable because I typically want more after I finish the smaller ones. I didn't like that the frittata was a little on the cooler side and the there was a little too much cheese. Other than that I got to free cookies which I can't wait to some of!

Great place for breakfast and lunch. Amazing breakfast danishes, my favorite so far is the Chocolate Angel Wing. Not too sweet, can tell they use quality dark chocolate. My daughter really likes the cheese danish. All the ones I have had are very good. Also they have excellent rich coffee. My favorite sandwich so far is the Hot Popeye ~ yummy cheese melted with lots of veggies, of course spinach is in there, hence the name. My husband loves the hot reuben and also their super salads, which is basically a meat + 3 selection of their cold side salads. Also amazing kale salad. Will be back!!

I'm happy to make Signe's a Hilton Head tradition. This place makes some really delicious breakfast and lunch fare. Signe's is tucked a bit off the beaten path. And I'm sure there's some enlightened vocabulary to describe the decor, like "rustic, provincial, pastoral, idyllic" or whatever. But I just have to wonder which episode of Hoarders they raided to get their props. The truth of the matter is, I love this place. Always fresh. Always from scratch. Always made to order. And the bakery cabinets are filled with a vide variety of sweet and decadent treats. Signe (whom I've yet to meet) is one heck of a restauranteur. Everything that comes out of that kitchen is simply delicious. You'll hear people rave about the Deep Dish French Toast. Apparently it was on TV or something. I'll rave instead about the Polenta, the Shrimp & Grits, and the Frittatas. I had a zucchini & mushroom & cheese quiche thing last time I was there. In a word, it was perfect. Yes, my favorite things here are breakfast items. (Is quiche a breakfast thing?) I may have to give in and try lunch next time... Signe's is a popular dining destination during high season (and for good reason), so get there early, and bring some reading material in case there's a wait. It's worth it. I'm looking forward to my next visit. Holler if you're coming with.

I was extremely disappointed. We heard of this place being authentic and when we walked in they informed us everything was made from scratch. There were no prices written anywhere!! We got 2 basic subs, a soda, potato salad and 2 pastries it came out to $32. The subs were children sized and left us hungry. The bread was not fresh, at lease a few days old and the potato's in the salad were under cooked. A lot of people talk about break fast and maybe that's good there, but I am not willing to risk it and find out.

After so many positive reviews, perhaps my expectations were too high. But our late breakfast experience was just OK. There was no wait, which was a plus. But then we had slow service (with only three other tables!), which was a con. The decor of the place needs some major updating, but that's not what brings me into a restaurant and it wouldn't keep me away if the place rocked it out with food & service. In a nutshell, the food & service were underwhelming. The toast was the highlight of my meal and was very good & fresh. The grits & poached eggs were fine. (I think it's quite possible they only offer poached eggs.) I would have liked to have seen an available list of side items, but I'm not sure they offer a la carte sides. When my husband asked to sub something else for fried potatoes, the server told him she'd have to check with her manager. Sigh. Rather than wait, he changed his order. Then we waited & waited & waited for a check... yeah... after finally having to flag our server down, we learned you take your silly plastic table number to the front, get your bill there & pay there. (And what's with taking "a name for the table" when you place your order "in case we lose your table number"? Huh? That's a first & seems completely useless to me, and quite frankly, implies you don't know how to run your restaurant. Or maybe the servers need better coaching on why they take a name for the table.) I did get a caramel, pecan bar to-go... the first half was delicious. The second half will go great with tomorrow morning's cup o' joe. Go here for the bread & pastries. Go elsewhere for a larger (and healthier) breakfast selection.

Great breakfast, service, coffee, and bakery. Our faves are the French apricot bread for making toast a home, the biscotti, and the all-American Veggie plate when you're feeling remorseful from the shrimp and grits at breakfast! Enjoy this HHI treasure.

Absolutely delightful breakfast!!! 5 stars for French Toast, 4 stars Fritatta, 5 stars blueberry muffin, 5 stars whole grain waffles (didn't taste even remotely healthy). 5 stars for the turkey sausage - - best ever.anywhere EAT THE BREAKFAST! 3 stars for Cowboy cookie (chocolate chip, oatmeal walnut cookie), dry and virtually tasteless; 2 stars for other muffins (don't remember flavor but dry and flavorless); 2 stars for angel wings (too dry and crispy, should have been flaky and soft); 1 star for nutella pie - no nutella flavor whatsoever, tasted like pecan pie SERIOUSLY, THE BREAKFAST IS AMAZING. This place is off the beaten trail, I hardly want to write this review because I want it to be all mine, and it looks like a hole in the wall, but the service is very nice and the breakfast food is amazing.

Overrated! Who bribed Rachel Ray to feature this place?? To be fair, the baked goods looked great, but that's not what we ate. We went for breakfast during a week-long visit to Hilton Head and have to say it was our worst breakfast experience. You go up to a counter and order your food -- okay, no big deal. The counter person was marginally helpful and not very friendly. Then you go have a seat and wait, and wait, and wait... My poached eggs were overdone and were made again correctly, but the main complaint is that the food overall was just nothing special. The "famous" French toast seems to be pre-made in baking pans and heated (I think microwave) when ordered -- think rubbery. Our joke for the rest of the week became: "let's go back to Signe's". No way!!

Went twice, tried a bevy of items. While I agree that the French Toast was not as good as it was supposed to be (see Rachel Ray) it's typical of a New Yorker to degrade the taste of an establishment's clientele simply because she's from NY. "Ick." There IS good food elsewhere. Blackberry French Toast: The sausage that came with the Toast was pretty good, but the fresh fruit (other than the red grapefruit) they serve with all the dishes was a little bland. The FT itself is indeed very eggy, and on the soggy side of the FT spectrum. That was disappointing, especially because the blackberry element was good. Henhouse Special: awesome. A pair of poached eggs atop a mound of cheesy oven-cooked-home-"fries," sprinkled with Canadian bacon pieces. Two slices of hearty whole grain toast. The "Good Cup of Coffee" met expectations. Blueberry muffin was good, as was the lemon chocolate poundcake. The latter was the better of the two. I don't know what's up with all the service complaints people have on Yelp. We had great service twice from a total of three different people. The outdoor seating is good, but great IF you get a table with some sun. It's a small place, so it doesn't take a genius to understand that there will be a wait if there are a lof of people there.

So,yes, service is extremely spotty and, yes, Signe herself is a little gruff. Yet, there are some stand outs. Go expecting to relax and you'll be fine. Salads are consistently great. Shrimp and grits are solid. Gazpacho and most soups are delicious. Iced tea is heaven. Breads are best on island - buy them to go. Quiche, tomato pie, shrimp pie, and potatoes often fantastic too. It's a local experience and worth an hour if you have it.

this is a great place to pick up a great salad or dessert. we did not order in so i cannot speak to the service. the food however was excellent. perfect for picking up several items for a picnic type lunch.

I would have liked to be able to rate this place but we finally left after 15 minutes because we were being ignored. The place wasn't busy and yet the wait staff continually walked past us without saying a word. A simple "be with you in a minute" would have been all it took and we would have waited.

Your stomach will love you forever - best breads, cakes, and cookies on the Island - the salad choices they have for lunch are wonderful. Signe's is an Island Institution.

I think this place has gone down. Been several times over the past few years and it only so so. Service isn't great. Sometimes you will stand there for 5 minutes before even being acknowledged. Then you wait for your food to be delivered to your seat. Had the french toast and it wasn't good at all. Ordered pastries in the past but not sure they are made the same day. Agree that it is overrated. Not going back.

Blackberry french toast was good, not great. Our kids each got pastries, and could not eat them. They tasted funny, even to me (and I am very tolerant of odd-tasting pastries). Even though we went on a cool morning, the seating area was uncomfortably hot. The table next to us had nice looking quiches. I would go back again to try those/

To get to the cafe, you walk through the bakery, with its tempting goodies. The cafe is on the small side but is very cutely decorated. The menu is also on the small side but it is available on-line to peruse before you go. You probably should, especially if you hoped to get fried or scrambled eggs. We like to try out-of-the-ordinary breakfasts, so we both got the southern style polenta, with corn, scallions, peppers, and cheese. We liked it a lot. We would go back.

Very interesting place, good food and nice people. The grits were to die for. All 7 of us had a great breakfast. The French toast looked awesome. Went twice in the same week.

This is a great breakfast spot, esp. if you, like us, arrive on H.H. in the wee hours of the morning. Service was friendly. The fritatta was excellent I know Rachel Ray raves about their french toast --it was different, but not my fave. The baked goods were super-yum and you can chose from the glass case, so we stocked up on the to-go desserts.

I'm not a huge fan of Signe's, but unfortunately my family is. Before going, be aware that the restaurant will bring the most uncomfortable dining expletive to your life with cheap dining chairs which may be bought at Walmart for a few bucks, and the service will have you steaming before your meal arrives. But, the food is good. Breakfast items such as the French toast and quiches are always very good, and recently we had a pumpkin pie which was outstanding, and one of my moms favorites. While the food is good, I must repeat myself that the service is one of the worst you will encounter. They've even brought a different course than requested because they were out of the other course. That is troubling for me to think about because it shows a new level of stupidity that justifies my concern for this country's future. I suggest getting take out, because this will be one of the worst dining experiences you'll encounter.

Good food, but the lactose intolerant should beware.....breakfast foods rely heavily on milk and dairy and many are pre-made so dairy free items are limited. Staff willing to adjust menus if possible.

Wonderful to the max. Cheerful, helpful servers who were totally timely & on top of their responsibilities. The little dining room is cute too - very country fair style. I had some sort of Swedish cinnamon butter bun that blew my mind into a million pieces - it was that good. I also had a very fresh salad with some real deal honey mustard dressing - you could see the mustard seeds in there - yum. My bf had what must have been an awesome Reuben, because it was gone in about 2 seconds. They have you pay on the way out because they are geniuses. It takes you right up to the take-away area. They had scones, muffins, TONS of cookies, Snicker pie, etc... We got the black & white cheesecake for later and it was divine. If I lived on HH I'd be visiting Signe every day.

We really enjoyed our breakfast here. (Husband had polenta breakfast dish and I had an egg dish.) However, each breakfast in hilton head was progressively better! Lots of competition!

A cute little bakery on the island that is tucked away as most things are in this neck of the woods. Their claim to fame is the French toast. I personally thought it was overrated (very eggy, not really toasted and lacking flavor). Apparently Rachel Ray likes it though...so take that for what it's worth (roughly $40/day). There weren't many waitresses working when we came and as a result we ended up waiting a while for our food and drinks. Their baked goods looked delicious, but I didn't have high hopes for the taste after the French toast.

I would give NO stars if possible. 1. A kids OJ was $3 and for that price it wasn't freshly squeezed! 2. You can only order poached eggs! (Ewww) 3. Speaking for the two adult meals and 1 kids meal we ordered all three were boring bland and some parts inedible. The fruit salad was days old (really-- serving rotten fruit?!) 4. It cost us $60 with tip. We will never go back. What a waste of time and money (we left the majority of our food on the plates-- an unheard of phenomenon for our food-loving family)

Has potential but Rachel Ray crazy if she loved this place. Mediocre service, dirty, dingy restaurant. Food was only thing better than average. French toast dry and flavorless. Corned beef hash was good. Henhouse special was very good. Cinnamon pastry good. Iced tea tasted like soap. We've been to many breakfast spots in Hilton Head and this one won't be on the list for overall satisfaction. Hilton Head Diner better overall.

Came here once for breakfast, once to pick up some bakery goods. The breakfast was ok, probably won't return for that. My son liked his waffle, but I thought it was a little soggy. My corned beef hash was homemade, but light on flavor, and the only choice for eggs is poached. My husband got some spanikopita, which he said was good, but hadn't been heated up thoroughly. He's not a complainer, so he ate it anyway. Returned on the way out of town to buy one of the raved about pound cakes, and got a couple snacks for the road as well. The scones, muffins, pound cake, and cookies were all amazing, and are well worth a return trip.

Coming to Hilton Head Island and not coming here to get a Key Lime Pound Cake would be like not walking the beach, like playing golf with no balls, like sex without the...you get it, right? I told my entire family about this. Some believed me and bought it, some didn't. I served it with after dinner drinks that night (why is my room always the party room???) It was OMG good. Next morning family that didn't buy it were pounding on my door to get some to have with their coffee. Sigh. Being the person I am, I gave it to them and went back to Signe's and bought more. Life is good. I have my priorities straight!

Based on Yelp reviews, I decided to try this place during a recent weekend trip to Hilton Head. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming, perhaps because I live in Atlanta where we have several outstanding options to choose from and the competition is somewhat more rigorous. To their credit, Signe's is likely the best brunch spot in Hilton Head. Food: Signe's offers a variety of hot and cold breakfast and lunch options, as well as an extensive assortment of homemade baked goods such as scones, cupcakes, cakes, and muffins. To be quite honest, the homemade baked goods are the only thing that I would return for. For brunch, I decided to try the Deep Dish French Toast, which apparently was featured on the Rachael Ray show. I guess I could see how her target demographic would enjoy this entree, but it simply wasn't well executed. The dish was essentially all egg and was devoid of any additional flavor - even a pinch of cinnamon would have provided a welcomed kick. The orange juice was also served in a bottle with a glass and ice, which just seemed odd. Service: Contrary to previous reviews, the service wasn't bad during my visit. However, there were only a handful of people in the place at the time, so the situation likely would have been different later in the day. Atmosphere: The staff are all welcoming, but the decor needs to be overhauled as soon as possible - there are more random knick knacks on the walls than in a Cracker Barrel. Other: Once you order, your server provides you with a plastic number that you must bring to the counter to retrieve your bill. Don't wait for the bill at the table - it will never come.

I was told by multiple people that this was the bakery to use while on the island...NOPE! Spent $32 on 6 cupcakes for a birthday which really doesn't bother me if the cake is good. Cake was dry and lacked flavor in the chocolate red velvet and the buttermilk varieties. The icing on all 3 was decent but overall I can't recommend this place for cupcakes.

If I could rate using negative stars I would. I ordered the Henhouse special. First, they refuse to scramble eggs even though they have eggs on their menu, they only offered poach which I requested loose, the order came out room temperature which mean its was sitting around before they brought it over, the eggs were hard, and it came with wheat toast. Who serves wheat toast with eggs, cheese and bacon!? They could have at least asked what kind of bread I wanted. All seven of us were extremely dissapointed with all the food we ordered so we decided to order their special triple berry french toast to try and save the meal. No one at our table could understand what the rave is all about. It came out room temperature, mushy, eggy and didnt resemble any french toast I ever had. I can tolerate below average food quality but this was far worse. Save your money and go some where else. Anywhere else.

The food was delicious, but the service was absolutely slow. I went with high expectations after looking at the menu and the food definitely didn't let me down. I had the shrimp with grits, which came with a side salad, and delicious cornbread, and my boyfriend had the henhouse special. One tip that I would let visitors know: once you have finished up your meal, bring the number that they leave on your table up to the register so that you can close out there. (We didn't know this and waited 15 minutes hoping that our waitress would come around). Perhaps they happened to be short-staffed that day?

My this place is so wonderful that I remember it from my trip to Hilton Head 3 or 4 years ago. What really stuck with my was the incredibly lovely service and the delicious pound cake. We loved it so much we took some home and froze it to eat for several future months.

This place claims to be a "Heaven-Bound" bakery, but for a few hours, it was my personal hell. The service was excruciatingly slow, and they messed up my order, which prompted another long wait. Also, the homespun country-style decor made me want to kill myself. The food was tasty (hence the second star) and the crumb cake I had with my coffee was great, but the overall experience was lousy.

We had breakfast here during vacation. I had blackberry french toast, which had been featured on food network. I usually don't choose sweet items for breakfast, but this was delicious! The tomato basil & cheese frittata was great too. I would go back if in HHI again. The service was friendly and quick.

Always a favorite on Hilton Hilton for us. They ran out of sugar free syrup. They ran to publix immediately and got us some with in 5 min. Great service.

The Deep Dish French Toast is definitely the way to go whether you're coming for breakfast or brunch. You can choose from blueberry, blackberry or plain OR choose the Trio Plate wherein you can get all 3 flavors. But personally, I enjoyed the blueberry. It's served with sausage and fruit; all for $7.95. They have their menu online so you can decide what to get before arriving there (although there's no real mental work here!) The only item I didn't like was their version of Gazpacho soup. I am used to the blended version and Signe's had theirs with diced ingredients so it tasted like salsa to me. I like my Gazpacho soupy, that's all. Other than that, we were happy and would definitely come back for some hearty breakfast or sweet pastries like the key-lime pound cake. YUM!

We ate a lot of great food in Hilton Head and Signe's was definitely one of the best experiences. The location is unassuming (and a bit hard to find. Is this someone's backyard?). The menu had us worried, because it's not strictly typical brunch fare. No worry necessary-the frittatas were AWESOME. Hot. Cheesy. Spicy. (pause. while I have a delicious flashback). Breaded fried sausage? Yes, please. And a side of fruit with every meal. The french toast was all sweet and no savory. Delicious, if that's what you are expecting. It's more french coffee cake than french bread. Decadent, fruity coffee cake. A bit overwhelming for sleepy, hungover taste buds. I got bag of lavender blue biscottis to take home and now I have a piece of heaven with my morning coffee. As for the decor (shake my head) it's all in good fun. It's a chicken coop, people, get it? Calm down. And the touches of Gullah art were nice.

We had breakfast here: blueberry scone - tasty, great coffee, poached eggs with cheese over potatoes. We came back later for dessert: Bananas Foster cake - very good and cookies which were a bit better than average. the key lime pound cake was good as well.

A favorite of the locals, this place is hidden from the main roads, but well worth a stop. When on vacation in Hilton Head with my family, we ate here two days in a row! For lunch, get a hot panini sandwich. I opted for the Hot Chicken Jack, which included breaded chicken tenders with Monterey jack cheese and a tangy honey mustard sauce. It was delicious! I also opted for some pink lemonade, which wasn't too sweet and was very refreshing on the hot day. The next day, we went for brunch (breakfast is served all day). I got the whole wheat waffles which were perfect. My sister got the shrimp and grits, and I definitely should have gone for that. She let me have a bite and they were spicy and fantastic. I also got a cup of coffee, and their roast is great. We got some cookies and bread to go. I got a chocolate and peanut butter cookie which was heaven, as well as a loaf of challah, which was probably the best challah I've ever eaten. If you're visiting Hilton Head, definitely make a stop at Signe's. It's really good food for a good value.
